Harvest Gold Announces Drill
Program, Rice Lake
Gold Belt, Manitoba
May 4, 2006
Harvest Gold
Corporation (HVG – TSX.V) May 4, 2006 (the “Company”) is pleased to announce
that exploration activities leading up to its planned June, 2006 drill program
at the “The Red Hill Zone” on the Company’s Johnston property in the Rice Lake
Gold Belt near Bissett, Manitoba have begun.
In October, 2005
the company undertook reconnaissance geological mapping, a soil geochemical
survey and a 5 hole diamond drill program on a portion of its Johnston Claims
property in the Rice Lake Gold Belt. This program resulted in the discovery of a
new zone of gold mineralization with up to 7.5 g/t Au over 2 m in one drill hole
and multiple lower grades of gold in adjacent holes. (See January 18, 2006
Press release) The Red Hill Zone is open at depth and along strike, and
follow-up geochemistry indicates that the mineralization continues for at least
another 500 m to the east of the program’s last drill hole.
Line cutters will
lay out a 100 m spaced grid extending 2 kilometers in length which will cover
the ‘Red Hill Zone’ and the known eastern extent of the related alteration zone.
This zone of strong iron carbonate alteration occurs in rocks that are
identified as the same age and type as the Balmer Formation rocks that host over
90% of the gold deposits in the Red Lake, Ontario district, including the
Goldcorp Mine. The gold-bearing alteration at the Red Hill Zone is typical of
the ankerite (iron-magnesium carbonate) found in association with most of the
gold deposits in the Red Lake District. Other occurrences of the same type of
alteration on the property occur within a large fold structure and a regional
shear zone that has been mapped by government geologists to extend all the way
to Red Lake.
Matrix Geochemical
Services of Toronto, Canada has been hired to conduct a 3-dimensional Induced
Polarization (IP) survey over the new grid area. This work is expected to start
next week and be completed before the end of May. This survey is intended to
determine the subsurface extent and plunge of the mineralized zone in areas of
no outcrop. The results will assist the company’s geologists in determining the
best places to locate the second tier of drill holes, because the gold is
associated with very fine grained pyrite and arsenopyrite, which respond well to
this IP survey method. The survey may also identify additional mineralization in
the area, as this type of gold deposit often occurs in clusters and may contain
individual high grade shoots.
Drilling on the
Red Hill Zone is planned to begin in June. Eight holes are scheduled to target
the open eastward extension of the known zone and the new geochemical anomalies
for a distance of approximately 500 meters to the east of DDH 05-01. In
addition, three holes are slated to test the down dip extent of the presently
known gold-bearing mineralization. The 2005 drill program tested the zone to a
maximum depth of approximately 120 m.
The property
vendor, Steve Lesavage, made several gold discoveries on the western portion of
the property over a 25 year period of exploration. His historical data base
includes surface and airborne geophysical surveys, surface geochemical surveys,
and diamond drilling programs. One of these discoveries, located approximately
one Km west of , and along the same shear zone as, the Red Hill Zone, discovered
5.7 g/t Au over 1.5 m of core length. A review of the historical data has
identified a number of priority target areas of equal interest to the Red Hill
Zone, including other areas of carbonate-iron-formation. During the summer of
2006, detailed geological mapping will be undertaken to accurately define these
alteration zones. This will be followed by soil geochemical surveys over zones
of alteration to identify new drill targets.
