Drilling Starts at Assean Lake Manitoba Gold Project; IP Survey Completed on Extension Claims

02/08/2005

February 8, 2005 (REM – TSX.V) … Rare Earth Metals Corp. (the “Company”) is pleased to report that JV partner and property operator Canadian Gold Hunter has commenced drilling on the Company’s Assean Lake gold project in north-central Manitoba. Up to 2600 metres of diamond drilling is scheduled for this program to test the depth extent of the high–grade Hunt gold zone and its strike extent to the west.

The Hunt Zone has been drilled to a depth of 300 metres in previous programs and traced for 600 metres along strike, including a 100-metre long high-grade, westerly plunging shoot with intervals up to 27.2 g/t gold over 4.27m. The Hunt Zone is offset by a fault at a depth of about 250 metres. Three holes will be drilled below the fault to the 350 - 400 metre level testing for the offset continuation of the Hunt Zone at depth. In addition, several shallower holes are planned to test the westerly strike extent of the Hunt Zone.

The Assean Lake project is an advanced exploration play with over 2.5 million dollars spent on drilling and surveying activity to date. The prime exploration target at Assean Lake is shear-hosted gold associated with gold-enriched sulphide iron formation; typical mineralization styles for gold deposits on the Canadian Shield.

Six gold zones have been identified to date (both from historic and current exploration programs) on the Company’s property over a 12-kilometre strike length. The gold zones occur along the Assean Lake Shear Zone, a 200 kilometre long deformation zone similar to major shear zones associated with important gold mining camps elsewhere on the Canadian Shield.

Assean Lake Extension Claims: The Company also announces that Matrix Geotechnical services of Toronto, has completed an Induced Polarization Survey (IP) on the Company’s 100% held extension claims. The IP survey covered anomalous areas identified in the summer, 2004 Mobil Metal Ion geochemical survey conducted under the direction of Mark Fedikow PhD, P.Geo.

The company’s extension claims cover the east and west strike directions of the Assean Lake Gold Project.

The IP survey just completed is undergoing interpretation and the results will be summarized in a final geophysical report due shortly. Potential drill targets will be identified and an initial drill program contemplated would begin immediately following the end of the program just announced for the Assean Lake Joint Venture property.

The Assean Lake Project is a 60/40 joint venture between Canadian Gold Hunter and Rare Earth Metals Corp. The Assean Lake Extension Claims, specifically, the Row/Lass and Wood claims, are 100% owned by Rare Earth Metals Corp.

Drill results and technical data for the Assean Lake Joint Venture have been reviewed by Jan Christoffersen, P.Eng. a Qualified Person pursuant to NI-43-101.
